Haley Gann Honored as the 2018 Outstanding Student Library Worker

Haley Gann and David Arneke Haley Gann, a student worker in University Libraries’ Access Services and Administration departments since 2016, has been named as the 2018 Outstanding Student Library Worker Award Winner. The award, made possible by generous gifts from David Arneke and UNC Greensboro’s University Bookstore, is given annually. As winner, Gann’s name will be placed on the award plaque on display in Jackson Library, and she will receive $500 cash from Arneke and a $500 gift card from the University Bookstore. “Haley is committed to the Library,” said Karen Ward. “She shows great passion for the work she does with patrons, faculty, staff and students.” Gann fully embodies the criteria for the award, including reliability, responsibility, conscientiousness and commitment to service and teamwork. She will graduate this May from UNC Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and has accepted a full-time position in the Nursing Residency Program at Vanderbilt...

Krystal Speights Announced as 2017 Outstanding Student Library Worker Award Winner

David Arneke, Krystal Speights and Kathy Crowe University Libraries is pleased to announce Krystal Speights as the 2017 Outstanding Student Library Worker Award (OSLWA) winner! Speights is a graduate student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program in the School of Health and Human Sciences at UNCG. She has been working in Jackson Library for more than four years.  She currently serves as Student Manager in Access Services and is responsible for supervising other students, responding to chat and email requests on behalf of the Check Out Desk, opening and closing the library and reporting on service, facilities and security issues. “Krystal has a sunny nature and is always smiling and happy,” said Marilyn Hanichak, Desk Manager in Access Services and Speights' supervisor. “Krystal inspires others to do well. Outstanding Student Library Worker Award Winner Named; Another Wins UNCG Student Employee of the Year

L-R David Arneke, Femi Balogun Femi Balogun from the Research, Outreach, and Instruction Department is the winner of the 2015 Outstanding Student Library Worker Award.  The award, made possible through a gift from David Arneke of the Friends of the UNCG Libraries Board of Directors, is given annually. The winner receives a spot on the award plaque, a $500 award from Mr. Arneke, and a $500 gift card from the University Bookstore. Femi is a graduating senior studying Spanish language, literature, and culture, with a minor in Health Studies. She has worked in the libraries since 2013 in both the Digital Media Commons as well as the Research, Outreach, and Instruction department. Lois Barnes Receives Outstanding Student Worker Award

Graduating senior Lois Barnes (left) was recognized with the Libraries’ Outstanding Student Worker Award this spring.   Lois worked in the Access Services Department, where she was very well regarded by her co-workers and library patrons alike. She was cited for her helpfulness in serving patrons, and her creativity and leadership among the student workers in the Libraries.   One colleague described her as "the sort of employee you wish you could clone." The Outstanding Student Worker Award was created through the generosity of David Arneke (right), a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the UNCG Libraries.   Lois received a cash award and a matching award from the UNCG Bookstore.
