Suzanne Sawyers' "Proliferation" Selected by the Guild of Book Workers for Its 2018-2019 Traveling Exhibition

Every two years, the national Guild of Book Workers invites members to participate in its traveling juried exhibition. The 2018-2019 exhibition, entitled Formation, will travel to five venues over the two-year exhibition, including the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts in Minneapolis, the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, the University of California – Los Angeles, the North Bennet Street School in Boston and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  The Guild of Book Workers was founded in 1906 to establish and maintain a feeling of kinship and mutual interest among workers in the hand book crafts. Among its early members were well-known artist-craft workers, such as bookbinders and typographers. Isabella Baltar of Preservation Services Awarded Libraries' Innovation and Program Enrichment Grant

How does one best care and preserve books and archival materials so that they remain intact for the future?   A member of the Preservation Services Department at the University Libraries at UNC Greensboro is about to share her knowledge in some new ways. Isabella Baltar of Preservation Services has been awarded the Innovation and Program Enrichment grant from the University Libraries for this year.  A native of Brazil, Baltar worked at the renowned Etherington Conservation Services and worked directly with Don Etherington as an apprentice before coming to the University Libraries. The goal for her project is to create a series of five (5) short films about the care and preservation of libraries and archives materials, in three different languages, English, Spanish and Portuguese, making important basic knowledge in this area accessible through the Internet. University Libraries to Host Photo Preservation Workshop

Preserving Photograph Collections Sponsored by the North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC) Walter Clinton Jackson Library, UNC Greensboro November 24, 2014 ~ 9 AM - 4:00 PM Historical and fine art photographs can be found in many libraries, archives, museums, and historic sites.  Preserving these collections requires a deep knowledge of the various types of photographic media, chemical photographic processes, causes of deterioration of photographic materials, and photograph conservation science.  This workshop is an introduction to identifying and preserving 19th and 20th century photographs: daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, hand-colored silver gelatin prints, contemporary color, and digital photographs.  Strategies for preservation and best practices for proper handling, exhibition, and storage will be presented.  Participants are encouraged to bring photographic items of interest.
