Stipends Will Provide Support for Information Literacy and Librarian Involvement

The UNCG University Libraries will award stipends to three faculty members to provide support for the revision of their spring 2017 courses to more fully integrate information literacy and increase librarian involvement into the classes. The stipend recipients are: Shana Scudder, English 305 Daniel Christen, Chemistry 355 Liz McNamara, Honors Seminar 228  Dr. Scudder will collaborate with Jenny Dale, University Libraries’ liaison to the English department, and Armondo Collins, Head, University Libraries’ Digital Media Commons, on her contemporary rhetoric class. Students will complete scaffolded information literacy assignments throughout the semester culminating in a final multimedia project. Dr. Christen will collaborate with Karen Grigg, University Libraries’ liaison to the Chemistry department on his intermediate organic chemistry laboratory. UNCG Librarians Featured in Book on Academic Data Librarianship

Lynda Kellam Karen Grigg UNC Greensboro librarians Lynda Kellam (Data Services and Government Information) and Karen Grigg (Science Liaison librarian) are featured in Databrarianship: The Academic Librarian in Theory and Practice (2016).  Published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Kellam served as co-editor for the book, and Grigg published a chapter, “Data in the Sciences."  Databrarianship examines how librarians can utilize different methodologies and theories to better curate and organize academic research data. The new release draws “ on the expertise of a diverse community of practitioners, this collection of case studies, original research, survey chapters, and theoretical explorations presents a wide-ranging look at the field of academic data librarianship. ”   Additional information on Databrarianship.

Karen Grigg Appointed Science Librarian

Karen Grigg has been appointed Science Librarian at UNCG's University Libraries, effective August 1.  Previously, Karen was Collection Development Services Librarian at Duke Medical Center Library & Archives from 2004-2013.  Before that, she was the Life Sciences Subject Specialist and Textiles and Engineering Services Librarian at the North Carolina State University Libraries from 1999-2004.  Her first professional position was at Lockheed Martin on the US EPA Contract in Research Triangle Park, NC as a special librarian/technical specialist. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an MSLS in 1998.  She has a BA in English Literature from Old Dominion University, and did undergraduate work in Wildlife Biology at the University of Montana and in Mathematics at Montana State University.
